First Day of Crazy 8's Math Club

The first day of Crazy 8’s Math Club was an exciting adventure in hands-on math exploration for first through fourth graders. Students spent an hour diving into creative and engaging activities that brought math concepts to life.

First and second graders explored patterns by crafting glow stick runways and popsicle stick planes. The challenge was to land their planes safely, which required identifying the correct pattern to avoid a "crash."

Meanwhile, third and fourth graders focused on geometric shapes. They created two-dimensional polygons, calculated areas using squares and triangles, and tackled an engineering challenge to construct as many polyhedrons as possible.

It was a fun and successful start, sparking excitement for math and creativity in every student!

    December Outdoor Lion's Learning

On December 19, 2024, Francestown Elementary School celebrated another Outdoor Lion’s Learning Day, immersing students in hands-on exploration of winter ecology. Students searched for evidence of life in winter, investigating questions such as where animals are during the cold months and whether trees remain alive. Their discoveries were complemented by cozy moments around a campfire, where they toasted marshmallows and cinnamon buns while sipping warm apple cider. Indoors, students collaborated in teams to craft detailed dioramas of the subnivean zone, illustrating the hidden pathways and habitats animals use to navigate and survive beneath the snow.
